Straight Hair From Hollywood

By Gail Mardew

One way to know what's hot and what's not when it comes to currently fashionable hairstyles, you simply will have to look at Hollywood celebrities. In the previous years curled, wavy hair was the fad. Now the trend is slowly reverting to hairstyles sporting sleek, straight hair.

There are a number of famous Hollywood stars that now maintain beautiful straight hair. This isn't surprising since the current fashion is saying that less is more; the simpler is your look, the better. Curls and waves are gorgeous of course, but straight hair gives a more youthful look. This is perhaps why more and more celebrities are taking out their hairstraighteners once again.

Among the Hollywood celebrities with straight hair is Kate Hudson. A very bubbly and pleasant actress who recently starred opposite Anne Hathaway in "Bride Wars", Kate has naturally straight blond hair which complements her congenial, girl-next-door image. In some of her movies she wore her hair curly but now shes back to having long straight hair. To have a bit of novelty Kate opted for bangs.

Another famous celebrity with bangs is Lady Gaga. A talented pop singer, Lady Gaga sang international pop hits "Pokerface", "Paparazzi", "Lets Dance", and a lot more. She has distinctively unorthodox fashion taste and her music videos show her wearing the most unusual yet oddly fashionable hairstyles and ensembles. But whatever look she has and whatever way her hair is piled up on her head, she almost always has straight hair.

A fellow pop icon with trademark straight hair is Rihannna. In her video "Umbrella" her short hair which is cut longer in front created quite a stir among the public, particularly hair stylists. Her short bob became very popular and in constant demand by women of all ages in beauty salons. She now wears her hair even shorter, but still keeps it straight and spiky.

One of the benefits of having straight hair is that you can play with it to have a young, playful hairstyle, and you can also work it to look formal and glamorously sophisticated. Megan Fox for example looked very sexy and elegant in the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. She swept up her hair and combed it with gel all the way back, showing off her great bone structure. In a similar yet milder version(sans the gel), Amy Adams did the same thing during the premiere of her movie "Julie & Julia". Anne Hathaway look both young and classy during the 4th Annual Critics' Choice Awards with her neatly styled shoulder-length straight hair.

With the right clothes and poised bearing, straight hair gives an aura of affluence and elegance. The perfect example for this is Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has naturally beautiful straight hair. She always looks elegant and sophisticated in a shapely dress or tailored outfit, simple jewelry and with her thick straight hair cascading down her back.

Having straight hair is a good starting point for anyone who want's to get a Hollywood look. before going for anything extravagant with your looks, go easy first and keep it simple with straight hair. - 23815

?Advanced Lead Guitar Techniques - Pinch & Tap Harmonics Lessons

By Jackson White

Pinch Harmonic

"Pinch harmonic is a typical guitar scream. It is frequently played by the guitar players to rip into the solo and to play one or more notes that just scream and sound amazing. The principles remain the same but this time all the action depends on how you pick the string.

While playing the pinch harmonic guitar player not only picks note as normal, but also lets his thumb brush up against the note precisely after he picks it. The thumb is setting up the node of the "harmonic" and forcing the strings to vibrate with the desired harmonic series. If you crank the gain and treble up, after employing the technique in proper way, you will always get a screaming harmonic of some kind.

As with other harmonics you need to fine tune the exact position you are utilizing to strike the melodic point, and you can even exchange between different harmonic types in between notes. Since Pinch Harmonics are performed near the bridge, we are selecting from the higher harmonics, so we find high notes. Some higher harmonics also include inharmonic components, adding to the scream. A lot of the possible actions are here within a small space - we get more because the guitar is artificially sensitive to the higher order harmonics as be having upped the gain a lot.

Tap Harmonic

A "Tap Harmonic" is just like an "Artificial Harmonic"; the divergence between them is that the "tap harmonic" uses a single action- to do a tap, instead of separately touching and pulling the string. For this you need to tap the string softly so that it very briefly strikes the fret underneath it and remove your finger very quickly. The tap puts the string in vibration and at the same time creates the node in the right place - so of course you need to tap the string at the right place essential to set up the "harmonic" you want.

Whammy Bar Harmonics

Ultimately, the "Whammy Bar Harmonic" is akin to the "tap harmonic", the only difference is that while playing "tap harmonic" you select very high order harmonics, and there is no fret beneath the exact point you need to strike, therefore, you require to practice a whipping action to set the string vibrating and deaden it in the accurate spot to set up the desirable node. That is why; "whammy harmonics" are about the most challenging "harmonic" technique. A good point to do this is on the G string between the 2nd and 3rd frets - depending on the right position you whip. In this way, you can get 3 or 4 different harmonic series. Simply remember that before you whip, push your whammy bar down, and after the tap release it and add a few vibrato - with this technique you can find some crazy screams. - 23815
