R.P.M.: Old styled lenient Quinn gets to be head of university, and then approves a patrol bust of liberals to spare establishment. Inept Erich Segal script, comparably poor Kramer direction gives the film a certain camp value. Cast includes Anthony Quinn, Ann-Margret, Gary Lockwood, Paul Winfield, Graham Jarvis, and Alan Hewitt. The Gorilla: Disheartening comedy whodunit with the Ritz Brothers as fumbling investigators prowling around old shady home looking for a murderer. Cast includes The Ritz Brothers, Anita Louise, Patsy Kelly, Lionel Atwill, Bela Lugosi, and Joseph Calleia. (66 minutes, 1939)

My Son John: Archetypal apple-pie parents (Hayes, Jagger) suspect their child (Stroller) of being a communist in this reactionary period piece. DramaticalIy overwrought, however this film is fascinating as a social history. Stroller (who's brilliant) died before film was completed. Cast includes Helen Hayes, Robert Stroller, Dean Jagger, Van Heflin, Frank McHugh, and Richard Jaeckel. (122 minutes, 1952)

Paddy: Irish lover Cavern tries to shuffle differed sensual confronts with uninspired home life in typical comedy-drama. Cast includes Milo O'Shea, Des Cavern, Dearbhla Molloy, Judy Cornwell, and Donald LeBlanc (97 minutes, 1970)

Signs of Life: A generatios old boat making business in Maine closes its doors, and the workers, youthful and old, who've exhausted their lives there, try to decide out what to do next. Cast includes Arthur Kennedy, Kevin J. O'Connor, Vincent Phillip D'Onofrio, Michael Lewis, Fellow Bridges, Kate Reid, Kathy Bates, Mary-Louise Parker, and Georgia Engei. (91 minutes, 1989)

Night Moves: L.A. investigator Hackman sets apart his domestic griefs to track nymphet Griffith to Florida Keys. Difficult however underrated mental suspenser by Alan Acute leads to shocking pinnacle. Cast includes Gene Hackman, Jennifer Warren, Susan .cIark, Edward Binns, Harris Yulin, Kenneth Harms, James Woods, Melanie Griffith, Dennis Dugan, and Max Gail. (99 minutes, 1975)

Illicit: Cast includes Barbara Stanwyck, James Rennie, Ricardo Cortez, Joan Blondell, and Charles Butterworth. Self sufficient-minded Stanwyck cherishes Rennie, although doesn't desire matrimony to tarnish her cheerfulness. This is a boring film with way too much talking. Cast includes Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Cardinale, Anouk Aimee, Sandra Milo, Barbara Steele, Rossella Falk, Madeleine LeBeau, Caterina Boratto, Edra Gale, and Mark Herron. T (81 minutes, 1931)

Cross That Bridge When You Watch

You can learn a great deal from tag lines. Not only are they the pithy currency of would-be screenwriters and filmmakers alike, but they are semi-clever marketing slogans. That being said, I must say the tag line for BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA is actually dead on. Watching the film (or better yet, reading the book) will indeed help you discover a place that will never leave you, and a friendship that will change you forever. True enough -- and well said.

The film is a shining example of how a novel should and could be adapted for the screen, even when you take the minor plot adjustments into consideration. The film was written by David Paterson, who is the son of the novel's author, Katherine Paterson. As previously mentioned, it was faithfully adapted and lovingly brought to life. This is in no small way an indication of both Csupo and Paterson's dedication to the tenements of the novel.

The story revolves around two 12-year-old friends who create the imaginary world of Terabithia. This virtual kingdom was stunningly depicted by the conceptual artist Dima Malanitchev and brought tot life by the effects wizards at Weta Digital. The director, Csupo, insisted the look and feel of the fantastic elements be realistic and keeping in line with a greater sense of subtlety.

Filmed in New Zealand, the film manages to balance itself between the real-life aspect of everyday life and the imaginative world of the main characters, Jesse Aarons, played by Josh Hutcherson, and Leslie Burke, played by AnnaSophia Robb. These relative newcomers provide a convincing and moving portrait of young friendship and possibly the budding of young love. Their performances are not to be missed.

BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA was a critical darling -- and for good reason -- and also enjoyed a decent box office run. Completed for $20 million, the film garnered more than $120 million worldwide, designating it as something of a rarity: a hit. The film virtually swept the Young Artist Awards, sponsored by the prestigious Hollywood Foreign Press Association. It is a film that can be enjoyed by both young and old audiences. Indeed, as another of its tag lines suggests: close your eyes, but keep your mind wide open. - 23815

The Thief of Paris: Intense comedy-drama with personal problems turning Belmondo to thievery for reprisal against the world. Eventually he finds that robbery has become his entire life. Cast includes Jean-Paul Belmondo, Genevieve Bujold, Marie Dubois, Francoise Fabian, and Julien Guiomar. (119 minutes, 1967)

S.o.B.: An inventor hatches a plan to turn his latest turkey into a hit: juice it up with pmlography and have his spouse-megastar (Andrews) plain her breasts. A glib satire on contemporary Movieland tosses in everything from black humor to dry, with wildly choppy outcomes. This was Holden's last film. Brilliant, often spellbinding film reflects on the consequence of American pop lifestyle on postwar Europeans. Cast includes Rudiger Vogler, Yella Rottlander, Lisa Kreuzer, and Chuck Berry. The Indian Runner: Temperamental piece in reference to a youthful gentleman's efforts to comprehend, and get closer to, his bothered baby sibling who's just returned from Vietnam. The film is lazy at times, however filled with feeling and reality, and is relatively moving. Hefty acting jobs all around, with unconventional although powerful projecting of Bronson as the boys' depressed dad. How Movies Can Impart Wisdom Into Our Lives

We love to entertain ourselves watching a good movie. It does not matter if it is fiction or based on true events, we are addicted to movies that emotionally influence us. Each month millions of DVD movies are purchased and rented in America. Now, with high speed internet, you can get access to movies at the click of a mouse.

Why do we like movies so much? According to psychologist and sociologists, a good move does a lot for us. They help us to escape the realities of everyday problems, care and worries while taking us on a brief mental journey into another life where dreams are made possible. We tend to briefly live through the characters, the plot and stories we watch through the power of imagination.

Apart from helping to sooth our minds, a good move can also teach us a lot of things about society as a whole. Many new and old movies alike are created based on real life situations and circumstances. They may range from find true romance and falling in love to coping with the realities of living in poverty as Oscar-winner Kathy Bates lead a stellar performance in the movie, A Home of Our Own.

Not all movies are produced to take us off into the far wonders of space and time. True stories are one of my favorites. The lessons we learn by watching stories based on real events have the power to influence us and transform the way we think. We can all identify with certain scenarios that arouse emotions, entertain our worse fears or create excitement for something new.

Everyone can relate to a true story that is carefully reproduced and acted out by an outstanding set actors and actresses. The events surrounding the story, the time of year, the nature of the circumstances and the movie prognosis - all form an emotional connection as we sometimes laugh and cry as certain scenes are played out. It reminds us of similar situations.

The movie, The Burning Bed highlighted the experience of what it was like for women living in abusive relationships. While the laws have dramatically changed today giving more protection to people suffering in abusive relationships, when The Burning Bed was released, the movie caught the attention of many activists groups and inspired women all across the country to get out of abusive relations by seeking adequate help from friends, family and legal authorities.

You should be careful forming conclusions based on real life stories. While it is okay to identify with the circumstances of the leading character, it is not always okay to follow the conventional wisdom behind a movie. Your life circumstances although similar in nature are very unique and therefore require specific reassessments and evaluations.

The educational value of a true story goes without saying. Since we all gravitate toward true stories that we can relate with, there must be some comfort in watching how others deal with the same issues in life. If for nothing more, they do provide us with unique insight so we can begin to understand and explore our own options and choices. - 23815
