Learn To Play Guitar DVD: Determine What and Where To Practice

By Jamar Doss

It seems strange to me how many incorrect assumptions and teachings there are about becoming a better guitarist. Here is one thing that is NOT true.

You know what everyone says, "Teaching yourself is the best way to be original". This is so obviously false its hard to believe that anyone could actually believe it - yet some people still do. Don't fall into the trap of thinking this is the best way to learn.

The point is athletes with great abilities have them usually in one area. For example, Michael Jorden (arguably the world's greatest basketball player of all time) was not very successful when he tried to play baseball (or golf for that matter). Think about athletes in the olympics, they are specialists. They have found their natural ability and developed it to its greatest potential, but that natural ability is usually limited to one skill.

There are lots of non musical things that have been inspiring to me. The greatest source of inspiration has been my own personal experiences in life and within myself. The desire to express that was (and still is) a constant burning desire and powerful force that thrusts my desire to improve forward. Know what truly inspires you, seek it out, surround yourself with it and soak and soak there.

Listen to more music. Find more of the same music you already like. There is a lot of music out there that you haven't heard.

People ask, "should I stop playing everything I am used to playing, until I get rid of all my bad habits"? Well, if you have a lot more discipline than I have, go ahead and do that! If you can stand not making music for months, go ahead, but I don't recommend it.

This is critical to setting goals, planning strategy and monitoring the results, etc. When all the enemies of progress start to creep into your mind, you will need to bring your definite purpose to the forefront of your thinking. I have seen procrastination, fear of failure, self doubt, lack of motivation, temporary setbacks, and other negative things bring people with great potential to a halt. Knowing your definite purpose and reminding yourself of it when a negative thought comes into your mind will help you overcome it.

To be GREAT means I have to be BETTER than everybody else. We already touched on this one above, but it is worth mentioning again here. What matters is reaching YOUR goals, not someone else's goals. Who cares if you are or are not better than someone else? This is not the olympics. Music is the art of expression (or for some people, the science of entertainment). - 23815

Home Movie Theater Screens

By Owen Jones

When it comes to deciding on a screen, the first consideration is the kind of screen you want or even may need. If the room where you are going to set up your home theater is a big one, then you will need to have a home theater projection screen or maybe you just want one anyway.

I, personally, like the idea of having a drop-down screen, but sometimes you have to have one even in a modest home theater. It converts your living room into a home theater: you recline in your chair; click a button and a screen drops down; click a button and the lights dim; click another one and the movie begins!

However, if you prefer a television screen, then you might be considering buying a new one. They say that a 27 inch screen is adequate, but I do not agree. I really think you need 48-60 inches, but then I am a baby-boomer and my eyes are definitely not what they were.

If you are purchasing a new TV for your home movie theater, I think you should aim high. HDTV is already here and since February 2009 the USA has been committed to High Definition. Therefore, I would ensure that your new television is able to receive it. Then I suggest that the new home movie theater screen be a flat one in order to reduce the annoying glare that could ruin your experience, which could be another reason for choosing a projection screen.

Then you should ensure that your new television has enough input and output plugs for the equipment you plan to use and you're ready. Therefore, to summarize, I would choose:

More than a 27 inch screen

A flat screen

HDTV compliant

Sufficient input and output sockets

Satellite enabled

I would definitely get a receiver which is already satellite enabled, because it is the future or even the near future. If you get a satellite TV connection you will have access to HDTV downloads which you can watch on your new home movie theater installation whenever you want. - 23815

Polaris Movie Theaters

By Brett Adkins

The Polaris Mall area offers three different movie theaters to select from. Each one has unique attributes and offers different features but all are conveniently located and offer the latest movie releases.

First choice is the Rave theater. The Rave theater offers pure digital projection and the theaters are 3-D capable. They offer comfortable stadium style recliner seating with four feet of leg room between each seat. Rave uses the most up to date audio and visual technology to display movies as they were meant to be seen. They also have a game room decked out with all the current video games.

The crosswords ultra screen cinema boasts a razor-sharp three-story tall picture along with crystal-clear digital sound and comfortable stadium style seating. The ultra view auditoriums feature a screen 75 feet wide by 32 feet tall. These ultra screens take motion picture viewing to a totally new level of excitement and realism. These screens are more than 500 times bigger than the standard 19 inch TV set.

Westerville has its own local movie theater called Hollywood Studio. It's independently owned and operated locally and has eight screens. They offer the latest movies and offer high quality food than what you would normally expect at a movie theater. The concession stand has some of the lowest prices available. Hollywood Studio is located in the building that was once occupied by the Columbus Theater Company.

All of these theaters offer a unique movie going experience and offer a great way to spend an afternoon or to hang out with a few friends. - 23815

The Specifics of Blu-ray Discs

By Brian Engle

With the advent of high definition televisions, people like to make the most of their expensive pieces of technology. The Blu-ray disc makes that possible, since it plays graphics and sounds in stunning, crystal clear HD.

The Blu-ray disc, abbreviated BD, was developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association. This conglomerate has members from many different electronics sectors; 180 to be specific. It was formed in the early 2000s and exists today to manage Blu-ray operations.

The most important thing about the Blu-ray disc is its storage capacity. The amount of data a disc can hold establishes its capabilities, so the more you have, the better. A standard Blu-ray disc can hold 25GB of data.

Interestingly, 25GB is the lowest end of the Blu-ray spectrum. When extra layers are added, the storage capacity increases in increments of 25MB. For example, a two-layer disc can hold 50GB of data.

The reason Blu-ray discs are so much more capable than DVDs is because of the laser they utilize. DVDs are read by a red laser, but Blu-rays are decoded through a shorter blue laser.

Blu-ray discs can be played at any speed as long as the hardware can provide that speed. The regular speed of a playing disc is thirty six megabits per second, also known as 1x. Speeds can be multiplied (2x, 3x, etc.), and technology may reach the point where the rate can reach 12x.

Blu-ray can take a number of different forms, just like the computer form of a DVD is a CD, roughly. All discs share similarities, which enables some formats to be combined, such as a proposed Blu-ray and DVD disc, which could be played on either type of respective hardware. DVD is bound to become obsolete in the near future, so many people wonder what the point of making such a format would be. - 23815
