The Gibson Guitar Story

By Frank Frederics

Anyone that has just started playing guitar or has been playing for a little (or long) while has probably wanted to have a Gibson guitar if they do not already own one of the many fine models. Over the years, Gibson has made themselves known as a top player in the music and guitar industry and many famous guitarists have been using their guitars exclusively.

Gibson began with their first guitar that they brought out to the world back in 1936, the ES-150. This popular guitar became, at that time, top electric guitars for jazz music for its sound alone. For it's time, it was quite an accomplishment in the music world.

However, it was in 1952 when they released their most well known and popular model, the Les Paul. The first Les Paul solid body electric guitar had a single coil pick up called the P-90 which is part of the reason for the amazing tone that they can produce by a skilled player.

About nine short years later, they came out with another very popular model (best known for being used by AC/DC's guitarist, Angus Young), the SG. Some people say that the SG stood for standard guitar. This guitar has a thinner body than the Les Paul creating a slightly different tone.

After the success of these two guitar releases, Gibson started designing other models which included the Explorer, Flying V, Firebird and others. Just about all of the models of guitars became very successful which says something for the company itself.

With the amount of other guitar companies emerging in the music world, it is amazing to see Gibson staying on the top end of the pack. They have always been committed to making the highest quality instrument that they are able to make. If you do not own one yet, get one or at least try one out! - 23815

When Did Halo 3 Come Out?

By Casey Jones

On May 15, 2007 the information was published " the Halo 3 release date would be September 25 in North America and the 26th in Europe. Halo 3 marked the third in a wildly popular series for the Xbox 360 called Halo. According to the vice president of Microsoft's interactive entertainment business, Halo 3's release was more than just a video game release, it was the biggest media event of the year. He may just have been right.

The full history of Halo 3 really has to start with the publication of the first game in the series 'Halo: Combat Evolved'. In November, 2001, when Halo was first published, game consoles were something of a joke as one-person shoot-em-up games. Sure, some games existed, but there weren't the popular communities that the PC games in the genre had.

That all changed with Halo, in which players could fight aliens on foot and in vehicles, in order to complete objectives, while trying to unravel the secret of the Halo. Halo pioneered limiting the amount of weapons a player could carry to two, which in turn, meant forcing the player to make strategic decisions.

People waited for the publication of Halo 3 with baited breath. They awaited the continuation of the one-person, shoot-em-up combat format that had been dominant in the two former parts of Halo. Microsoft calls it the 'Golden Triangle of Halo', which consists of gun-type weapons, grenades and others. In reality, this was nothing new to one-person, shoot-em-up games, as it had existed since the very first Doom and even the precursor to that game, "Wolfenstein".

So, with all of that previous history, people were full of anticipation and excitement over the Halo 3 release date. How popular and welcome was the game? Well, before its release, 3.1 million copies were sold in advance orders and retailers thought that that was not enough.

The game grossed $300 million in the United States in just the first seven days. Overall, it has sold over nine million copies worldwide and was the best-selling video game in the USA in 2007. Even the critics loved it, putting it the seventh highest in the all-time list of Xbox 360 games.

The Halo 3 release date, like the release date of many widely popular video games was almost like a holiday like Christmas or Easter. It leaves us with the question of what will happen with video games in the future? - 23815

WMV to DVD Ripping and Converting Methodology Explained

By Lianne Lovasz

Windows Media Video, or WMV format files, are digital video files associated with Microsoft's Windows Media Player. WMV is a video codec designed by Microsoft for their Window's operating system.

Also to be noted is the fact that WMV files are the most commonly used files which are DRM ( Digital Rights Management ) protected. Which is not surprising, given Microsofts track record of protecting their content and providing support to clients and users for further protection.

DVD ( Digital Video Disc ) is an optical data storage device which can hold large capacities of digital data like high quality video and movies. A VOB ( DVD Video Object or Versioned Object Base ) file is a container format for DVD video files.

The complexity of the VOB file format is far too great to explain in this article, but the DVD format is essentially powered by a VOB file. Compact Discs, best known as CDs, are quickly being made obsolete by both DVD and BluRay media discs so it's no wonder it's becoming more and more popular to convert WMV format to DVD.

The online video business is plagued by widespread file sharing services and copyright violations. More than likely most videos you download from the web will be in WMV format. If you want to burn all of your WMV movies to DVD what you need is a WMV to DVD conversion program.

This would likely involve unlocking the DRM protection, and then burning the unprotected WMV files onto a DVD using a DVD authoring tool. Needless to say, it would be nifty if you had a tool which included both functions, i.e. unlocking DRM locked WMV files and then burning them onto a DVD.

Aplus WMV DVD Converter can do just that, converting footage to MPEG Layer 2 Video before burning it quickly to a DVD.

I am hoping that this article has been a help and use to you. - 23815
