The Internet And Live Music Concerts

By Ian Sawyer

I can still remember my first parent-free concert experience which occurred in 1990, when I was 17. I went with a handful of friends to see Canadian prog-rockers Rush at the Worcester Centrum in Massachusetts. I remember sleeping in my friend's beat up Toyota Tercel in front of the Centrum in the early hours of the morning the tickets went on sale. Back then we didn't have cell phones with speed dial, and we certainly didn't have online access to ticket websites.

Slowly the sun rose, we stumbled out of the car and took our place in a small line that was forming outside the box office. We stood, bleary-eyed, in line for hours and waited for the tickets to go on sale, excited by the prospect of getting front row seats to our favorite band. At 10 a.m., when the box office opened, a grouchy older woman reluctantly and slowly began accepting cash-only for tickets. Back then, $20 was a fortune to a high school kid, but one that was well worth it. Needless to say, we didn't get front row seats. In fact, we ended up in 'nose bleed' balcony seats. But the show-the sound, the lights, and the songs-were incredible.

Over time, I would go on to wait in line for other concert tickets as a young adult, but clearly things have changed in the last 18 years in regards to how tickets are bought and sold. Technology has made it possible to purchase great seats for great concerts without even leaving the house. However, with ticket prices skyrocketing to as much as hundreds of dollars per ticket, there is obviously a price to pay for such convenience.

Nowadays, the easiest way to go about obtaining concert tickets is to get online the moment they go on sale, which is usually at 10:00 a.m. on a Friday or Saturday. Repetitious clicking of your browser's refresh button starting at 9:59 should secure your place in the digital queue no matter where you are, or what you're wearing.

Having a plan and communicating with other concert-going friends at their own computers further ensures that at least one person will have access to great seats. Registering and establishing account information with ticket websites beforehand can speed up the process and prevent the possibility of being 'dropped' from the queue for taking too much time entering credit card information. Believe me, there's nothing more frustrating than being offered fantastic seats to your favorite band, only to lose them because you couldn't type fast enough.

You will see that the growing trend in the world of online concert ticket sales is the option to buy during a 'presale.' More and more bands are offering memberships to fan clubs that announce pseudo-secret presales that occur a day or two before the actual public sale. Some people believe that this is just another way to fleece music fans as it usually costs around $40 just to join the fan club. And there's no guarantee that you'll get the best seats anyway. However, some online fan clubs (one for a huge Irish band comes to mind) offer other incentives, such as a 'free' t-shirt or a 'free' CD of rarities. So, online club memberships just might be worth it for rabid fans with plenty of disposable income.

Keeping with the theme of Internet-based concert ticket purchasing, getting on ticket website email lists will keep you informed of any show in your area that may be of interest. It used to be that you would hear of an upcoming concert from a radio ad or from fan-base word of mouth. Being the first to learn of an impending Rolling Stones concert, for instance, was a source of pride and power that would impress others. On the other hand, missing a concert of great importance was also a possibility. These days, registering with major ticket agency websites or with your local event venues will keep you in the know, and make sure you never miss seeing your favorite band in concert ever again.

On those occasions where you have missed the presale and the public sale, and find out that the only tickets left are behind a giant pole, you do have other options. Post-sale ticket agencies have decent tickets to just about anything. However, they sometimes tack on considerable fees and mark ups. If you have the money, this is usually the last ditch option to get concert tickets to popular shows. You can also try auction websites, as they have become a haven for scalpers to get rid of tickets for high prices. Either way, the price some people will pay for their tickets reflects the true power of a live performance and the effect it has on music fans.

Taking into account the technological advances of the Internet age out of the equation, some people still prefer to get their tickets the old fashioned way-by standing in line at the venue or other local ticket agency location. There's an excitement and electricity when standing in line next to other hardcore fans, and camaraderie and new friendships are often forged. This is a more organic and hands-on approach to buying tickets. If you choose this route, be sure to wear a vintage concert t-shirt and have your cash handy. Those friends you've made in line will quickly become enemies if you hold up the queue by trying to pay by check or credit card. In the end, maybe it's better to remain in the comfort of your own home or office, jump on the computer, and login to a site that house various concert ticket sales in one location. - 23815

Shopping for the best posters online

By Mike Duke

How many of us have stared at an empty spot on the wall and tried to figure out the best way to cover it? Running from one flea market to the next to find an antique candle sconce or wrought iron wall sculpture is time consuming and, in the end, can become quite expensive. The same counts for innovative modern art, which may be the talk of the town for a while, but eventually will become trivial and forgotten.

Believe it or not, there are other attractive accessorizing options, which will be pleasing to both your pocket book and your eyes. They are called posters, and are sturdy pieces of printed paper art specifically designed to be attached to a wall or other vertical surface. They come in various sizes and are loved by young and old.

Like with all products marketed today, some types of popular posters will be mass produced, while others need to be personalized. Custom poster print jobs can create unique and valuable posters, some of which are often requested by collectors. Among those will be authentic vintage and antique military, travel and advertising posters.

An inviting island, a sleeping baby tucked away in a daisy, a 1957 Cadillac Eldorado... if you are trying to locate one of these specific pictures, look no more. At posterworld.com.au you can find almost anything you have your mind set on, even door posters, of which this company presents the largest collection available in Australia. Furthermore, this company offers premium services, which include quality matt or glossy laminated products.

Posters have swept the nation by storm, and not just simple folk like you and me. Once the poster rage took root, the business world soon realized what extraordinary, ideal advertising tools posters were. Abstract, botanical, scenery, or pop art, all pictures could be customized with logos, phrases and catchy slogans, to perfectly fit their products and services. They could also be made water resistant to be displayed outside.

Art can be defined as a product of human creativity. There is no limit to forms, shapes and sizes. Posters are also referred to as placards, or wall stickers, and can be viewed as a kind of art as well. Famous artists have spent hours creating the perfect photographs, drawing incredible pictures, or composing unbelievable designs by strategically merging text and images. That is art indeed!

The already vast selection of posters continues to expand. Almost daily new prints grab the attention of their audience. Some pictures are humorous while others speak to the imagination. What do you think when you see a black background, a bling bunny silhouette and the word: Playboy? Does your mind picture a boy with a rabbit hat trick, or a field full of beautiful women in bunny costume? Some other favorite themes are music, cars, airplanes, sports, scenery, movies, Gothic and educational posters.

How to display or preserve a private poster collection is up to the owner. Some people do not really care and just pin their price possessions to the wall, while others cover them with a glass sheet or slide their prints in double-stitched, clear vinyl sleeves. Those who want long-lasting enjoyment from their assets will completely frame them, while the extremist may present his vintage beer poster in a fluorescent display unit. Whatever way these poster lovers choose, they all have one thing in common... they truly understand that posters can really make a difference! - 23815

Movies Vides Reviews

By Plateau Ogiwara

We have some film reviewed in the following paragraphs. To find a movie download site you need to do the right search. "Unlimited Movie Rentals" or "Movie Download Software" might get you a good result, if they don't, try "Online Movies".

Horror Express: Cracketjack terror film, ingeniously orchestrated and well performed by the genre's megastars. Turn of the century chiller has a long iced up beast coming to life when being moved from Asia to the West. Lee and Cushing are adversary anthropologists aboard the train and Savalas is a power crazed Cossack officer. Cast includes Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Telly Savalas, Silvia Tortosa, and Jorge Rigaud. (88 minutes, 1972)

Edward My Son: Well acted however talky, stagy drama in which brash, rags-to-riches Tracy coddles his child, hoping to inject within him a sense of accountability. Cast includes Spencer Tracy, Deborah Kerr, Ian Hunter, James Donald, Mervyn Johns, qnd Felix Aylmer. (112 minutes, 1949)

A Guy Namend Joe: Excellent cast flounders in lazy fantasy in reference to WW2 guide Tracy returning to the planet to give youthful serviceman Johnson a hand in his romance with Tracy's lady friend Dunne. Cast includes Spencer Tracy, Irene Dunne, Van Johnson, Ward Bond, James Gleason, Lionel Barrymore, Barry Nelson, Esther Williams, and Don DeFore. (120 minutes, 1943)

Hoop Dreams: Magnificent documentary follows 2 Chicago central-city kids (Arthur Agee and William Bars), who have fantasies of basketball stardom, over 4 years' time. This quaint and immersing film plays like drama, not documentary, with the exception of that it takes spontaneous twists and turns no author might create. The film presents a scorching commentary on our school system, the indomitable power of the family, and the uncertainty of life. (109 minutes, 1994)

I Want Someone to Eat Cheese with: Garlin makes an unassumingly involving impact as an overweight, unlucky, in love joker that imagines he could be the one for the lead role in a suggested redo of Marty. Silverman is a standout as a insane/seductive ice cream parlor waitress. Cast includes Jeff Garlin, Sarah Silverman, Bonnie Seek, Amy Sedaris, David Pasquesi, Gina Gershon, and Elle Fanning. (80 minutes, 2007)

Lillian Russell: This is a strained bio of the early 2Oth-century megastar. Lavish surroundings and weak plotline decrease Faye's work. Arnold replicates his Diamond Jim Brady role with zest. Cast includes Alice Faye, Don Ameche, Henry Fonda, Edward Arnold, Warren William, Leo Carrillo, and Nigel Bruce. (127 minutes, 1940)

Choices: Fractionally deaf adolescent Carafotes becomes disillusioned while stopped from playing football due to his hearing problems. Well intentioned although evident drama is helped by a fine set of acting jobs. Cast includes Paul Carafotes, Victor French, Lelia Goldoni, Dennis Patrick, Demi Moore, Billy Moses, and Pat Buttram. (90 minutes, 1981)

Stage Door: Theatrical boarding home is setting for remarkable film, from an Edna Ferber and George S. Kaufman play. Dynamite cast contains Hepburn as opulent gal trying to be successful on her own, Menjou as proposing creator, Leeds as allergic actress, and a few future stars such as Lucille Ball, Ann Miller, and Eve Arden. Cast includes Katharine Hepburn, Ginger Rogers, Adolphe Menjou, Andrea Leeds, Gai Patrick, Constance Collier, Lucille Ball, Eve Arden, Ann Miller, Ralph Forbes, Franklin Pangborn, and Jack Carson. (90 minutes, 1937)

So Dark the Night: Renowned Parisian investigator is set to work throughout his holy day in the French country side. An impressively made B film, something of a sleeper in its time, agonizes only for absence of appeal on the part of its (mainly obscure) cast. Cast includes Steven Geray, Micheline Cheirel, Eugene Borden, Ann Codee, Egon Brecher, and Helen Freeman. (71 minutes, 1946)

This short list is an example of the variety of films you can find online that you can download. Searching "Movie Download Services" or "DVD Rental" will help you find downloading information for movies. If those fail you try "Burn DVDs". - 23815
