Metallica Rocks Again
Metallica new releases generally are a good time. Throughout their twenty five years most have been a success, only a couple weren't notable. The fanbase has enjoyed most of their releases, an exception would be the previous release, St. Anger. They seem to have been trying out some new sounds, which was okay except the fans weren't thrilled. Fans can't dictate every note a band plays, there has to be some experimenting along the way.
So there was great anticipation for this next album, Death Magnetic. This seems to be a sound more similar to the distant past, the heavy metal sound, and with good songs. This doesn't mean that they lead the heavy metal sound but their impact has not diminished much, and this album is testament to their ability to be relevant.
From the late eighties to early nineties the metal scene has gone through some changes, Metallica felt more hard rock during the nineties. Now they wouldn't be in a new metal category or a heavy metal of the more recent bands. Some of the songs on this new album are really good and would work with their past song releases, and would fit in on previous album releases.
Metallica will never put out anything as good as the first four albums, but that can be said of any great band. All bands experience this phenomenon. The Rolling Stones had all of their hits prior to the eighties. That doesnt mean that everything in the last thirty years was bad, it just wasn't as good. It isnt classic.
A few groups are still able to string hits together until they break up, but when band members reach their forties and fifties it's more difficult to continue to have those hits. If they can do that they definitely earn your respect. The list is short of the bands who've done it, Metallica is one, the Stones and Aerosmith along with a few others fall in this group. - 23815
