BlackBerry Curve 8900: The Universal Cell Phone
BlackBerry phones are very popular among business people. They have numerous corporate applications which make them invaluable to anyone working for a large business. The phones do not have many apps or features that would appeal to the regular person. For a while the phones have been absent of multimedia functions such as being able to stream movies, music, or even feature a substantial web browser. This has been true about BlackBerry phones until now. The new RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 phone offers customers a brand new way to enjoy a BlackBerry. The new Curve 8900 features a great list of user friendly apps which makes the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 a great phone not only for business people but for anyone as well.
The design of the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 is vastly improved from previous phones in the BlackBerry/Curve family. As of right now it is the slimmest phone featuring a full QWERTY keyboard. It is a nice change from bulky phones. The phone has a modern look, which is an improvement from the (almost) industrial and (very) conservative look of other BlackBerry phones. The phone was coated in very nice paints and finishes which not only make the phone presentable but also makes it extra durable. The screen on the Curve 8900 is a moderately sized but it supports a large range of colors that most phones cannot meet or surpass. Despite the small size of the phone (it is noticeably smaller than most BlackBerry phones) the keyboard is still very functional. They keys are spaced apart and are even raised above the phone unit, which gives them a nice tactile feel.
There are many features found on this phone that would still make it a great phone for any business person. The Curve 8900 comes with DataViz programmed into it. This application allows users to open and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents. Such a feature was available on previous phones but only by downloading an application for it first. One of the new features included is an improved web browser. It now supports full HTML which gives the user a better web surfing experience. Not only is it faster but one can also stream media like downloading music and movies. Not only that but you can watch YouTube clips as well. The Wi-Fi on the phone is a great improvement but the Curve 8900 could have used 3G support.
The camera found on the Curve 8900 was clearly improved on. The Curve features a 3.2-megapixel lens which is vastly improved over the previous 2 megapixels found on other BlackBerry phones. The picture quality was good but be wary of taking photos in dark areas. The camera can even record video. Similarly the video quality was decent but it was rather grainy.
The phone performance was very good. There is no outside interference during calls, not even from a noisy environment. Also the speakerphone worked just as well. There was little to no distortion on the callers voice coming through the speaker.
